Ohio Child Support Calculator

Ohio's income-shares guideline uses annual gross income. Each parent's obligation is the lower of their share of the combined schedule amount and the schedule amount on their own income, which protects lower-income parents through the self-sufficiency reserve. This calculator follows the JFS 07768 sole/shared worksheet with the current ODJFS schedule and the April 2026 guideline manual, including cash medical support and the 10% parenting time adjustment.

Annual gross income and adjustments

Ohio works from annual gross income, including overtime and bonuses (averaged over three years, using the lower of the average or last year) and self-employment income after expenses. The worksheet then subtracts adjustments: a credit for other children a parent supports, the out-of-pocket health insurance premium the parent is ordered to pay, and court-ordered spousal support paid. This calculator models the premium deduction only.

The self-sufficiency reserve

The schedule's shaded area marks incomes where the self-sufficiency reserve applies. Line 18 compares the paying parent's share of the combined-income amount with the schedule amount on that parent's income alone and uses the lower one, with a minimum of $960 a year ($80 a month). A parent whose own income is in the shaded area also pays at most 50% of child care.

Cash medical and child care

Every order carries cash medical support toward ordinary medical expenses: $510.21 per child a year, split by income share. Child care for work or job training is capped per child by age, from $16,116 a year for an infant to $8,780 for a school-age child, after subsidies and tax credits; each parent's share is reduced by what that parent already pays.

Frequently asked questions

Does Ohio use gross or net income for child support?

Gross income. Ohio's worksheet starts from annual gross income from all sources (wages, overtime, bonuses, self-employment, unemployment and disability benefits, spousal support received) and subtracts only specific adjustments, such as health insurance premiums the parent pays and support for other children.

How does parenting time affect Ohio child support?

If a court has issued or is issuing a parenting time order of at least 90 overnights a year, that parent's annual obligation is reduced by 10%. Any larger adjustment for extended parenting time has to be requested from the court as a deviation.

What is the minimum child support order in Ohio?

The worksheet never enters a basic obligation below $960 a year ($80 a month), the amount the schedule shows at its lowest income row of $8,400. Cash medical support is added on top.

What is cash medical support?

A separate charge in every Ohio order toward ordinary medical expenses (copays, deductibles, uninsured costs): $510.21 per child a year, split by income share and paid monthly with child support. Uninsured expenses beyond the total cash medical amount in a year are extraordinary medical expenses handled by separate order.

What if combined income is above $336,000?

The basic schedule ends at $336,000 of combined annual income, and the rule requiring its use does not cover incomes above the maximum. The calculator shows the top-row amount for reference; the court sets the obligation for higher incomes.

Can an Ohio court deviate from the worksheet amount?

Yes. A court may order a deviated amount under Ohio Rev. Code 3119.23, 3119.231 (extended parenting time) and 3119.24, and must state the facts supporting it. A child support enforcement agency cannot grant a deviation itself, though it applies one already in the order under review.
