Arizona Child Support Calculator

The Arizona Supreme Court sets child support through the Arizona Child Support Guidelines, an income-shares model. The current guidelines apply to orders entered on or after January 2022, as corrected in September 2022. This calculator follows the guidelines' steps: the schedule amount for both parents' combined income, the older child adjustment, insurance and childcare, the Parenting Time Table and the self-support reserve test.

This is a guideline estimate under A.R.S. § 25-320; Arizona Child Support Guidelines (Ariz. Sup. Ct. AO 2021-56, as amended by AO 2022-116) for informational purposes only — it is not legal advice and not a substitute for the official worksheet or a family-law attorney. Courts can deviate from guideline amounts based on statutory factors, and inputs like income determination or imputed income are ultimately decided by the court.

Income and the schedule

Child Support Income is gross income from almost any source, adjusted for spousal maintenance and for children of other relationships; this calculator takes the adjusted figure as entered. Combined income is matched to the closest row of the schedule, which runs from $750 to $30,000 in $50 steps, and an income exactly between two rows uses the higher one. Above $30,000 a month ($360,000 a year) the $30,000 amount is presumed unless a parent asks the court for more. For each child over 12, the basic obligation for that child's share rises by 10%.

Parenting Time Table

Parenting time is counted in days: each 24 hours is a day, and a remaining block of 12 hours or more is a day, 6 to 11 hours half a day and 3 to 5 hours a quarter day. The Parenting Time Table turns the yearly days of the parent with less time into a percentage, from 2.5% at 20 days to 50% at 164 days or more. That percentage of the basic obligation plus the over-12 adjustment is subtracted from that parent's share. With essentially equal time, the higher-income parent takes the adjustment.

Insurance, childcare and the self-support reserve

The children's medical, dental and vision insurance and work-related childcare are added to the obligation and shared by income, and each parent subtracts what they pay. If the result is negative, the other parent pays that amount. The paying parent keeps a self-support reserve of 80% of full-time monthly earnings at the Arizona minimum wage ($15.15 an hour in 2026, so $2,100.80); when support would cut into it, the court may reduce support to the income above the reserve. The award is rounded to the nearest dollar.

Frequently asked questions

Does Arizona use gross or net income for child support?

Gross income. Child Support Income includes wages, commissions, bonuses, self-employment profit, pensions, Social Security, workers' compensation and spousal maintenance received. Means-tested benefits such as TANF and SNAP are excluded, and spousal maintenance paid and support for children of other relationships reduce income.

How does parenting time reduce child support in Arizona?

The parent with less parenting time counts their days a year and finds the percentage on the Parenting Time Table, from 2.5% at 20 days up to 50% at 164 days or more. That percentage of the basic obligation (with the over-12 adjustment) comes off their share.

Who pays child support with equal parenting time in Arizona?

Usually the parent with the higher income, because the equal-time adjustment only offsets half of the basic obligation. If that parent also pays the children's insurance or childcare and the result turns negative, the lower-income parent pays the difference instead.

What is the self-support reserve in Arizona?

80% of full-time monthly earnings at the state minimum wage, $2,100.80 a month at the 2026 rate of $15.15 an hour. If the paying parent's income minus the reserve is less than the guideline amount, the court may reduce support to that difference, after checking the effect on the receiving parent's household.

What if combined income is above $30,000 a month?

The schedule ends at $30,000 of combined monthly income ($360,000 a year). The $30,000 amount is presumed unless a parent asks for more and shows the children's needs justify it, considering any large income gap between the parents.

What does this calculator leave out?

Income adjustments for spousal maintenance and other children, attributed income, education and extraordinary child expenses, different schedules for different children, split custody, benefits credited against support, the clearinghouse fee floor, the receiving parent's reserve check and deviations. The Arizona courts publish an official calculator.
