Oregon Child Support Calculator

Oregon's child support guidelines (OAR 137-050-0700 to 137-050-0765) are an income-shares model built on each parent's gross income. The Department of Justice updated the self-support reserve to $1,729 on July 2026. This calculator follows the rule's steps: the obligation scale, each parent's share, child care and health coverage, the parenting time credit for each parent's overnights, and the $100 minimum order.

This is a guideline estimate under ORS 25.270-25.290; OAR 137-050-0700 to 137-050-0765 for informational purposes only — it is not legal advice and not a substitute for the official worksheet or a family-law attorney. Adjusted income and the scale

Oregon starts from gross income from almost any source, then adjusts it for union dues, the parent's own health insurance premium, spousal support and a deduction for non-joint children; this calculator takes the adjusted figure as entered. Combined adjusted income is matched to the obligation scale for one to 10 children: every income up to $1,000 has the same amount, then each $50 band has its own, and income between two bands uses the lower one. Above $30,000 a month ($360,000 a year) the obligation stays at the $30,000 amount. Shares are rounded to a hundredth of a percent.

The parenting time credit

Each parent's average annual overnights under a written parenting plan or court order give a credit percentage from the formula in OAR 137-050-0730: small at low parenting time, half the obligation at equal time and all of it at 365 nights. The credit is that percentage of the combined basic obligation. Each parent's net obligation is their share of basic support, child care and coverage, less the credit and less the child care and coverage they pay themselves. Only the parent with the larger net obligation is ordered to pay, rounded to the nearest dollar.

Self-support reserve, health coverage and the minimum order

Each parent keeps a self-support reserve of $1,729 a month, so their share of basic support cannot exceed income above it, and child care is limited to what is left after basic support. Health coverage is reasonable in cost up to 4% of each parent's adjusted income, and its cost is split by those limits; a parent earning no more than full-time pay at the highest Oregon minimum wage ($16.80 an hour, $2,912 a month) contributes nothing. When neither parent provides coverage, the paying parent owes cash medical support up to the same 4%. Total support below $100 is raised to $100, except when each parent has exactly 182.5 overnights.

Frequently asked questions

Does Oregon use gross or net income for child support?

Gross income, adjusted for union dues, the parent's own health insurance premium, spousal support paid or received, and a deduction for non-joint children. The scale was converted from net to gross amounts using standard tax assumptions, so parents do not subtract taxes themselves.

How do overnights change child support in Oregon?

Through the parenting time credit. Each parent's average annual overnights give a credit percentage of the basic obligation from a logistic formula: rising slowly at first, to half at 182.5 nights and all of it at 365. Overnights come from a written parenting plan or court order averaged over two years; without one, the parent with primary custody is treated as having all the parenting time.

What is the minimum child support in Oregon?

$100 a month. Oregon presumes an obligated parent can pay at least $100, counting cash child support plus cash medical support or the coverage the parent provides, whichever is greater. The minimum does not apply when each parent has exactly 182.5 overnights, or when the paying parent's only income is disability benefits, they are incarcerated, or they receive public assistance.

What is Oregon's self-support reserve?

$1,729 a month from July 2026, set from the federal poverty guideline for one person and updated every July 1. A parent's share of basic support cannot exceed their adjusted income minus the reserve, and child care and coverage shares are limited to what is left, although the $100 minimum order can still apply.

What if combined income is above $30,000 a month?

The scale stops at $30,000 of combined adjusted income ($360,000 a year), and the basic obligation stays at that amount. A parent can ask the court or administrator to rebut the guideline amount if the result is unjust or inappropriate.

What does this calculator leave out?

Income adjustments (union dues, the parent's own health insurance, spousal support, non-joint children), potential income, the child care maximums in OAR 137-050-0735, Social Security and veterans' benefits for the child, children attending school, caretaker and state-care cases, split custody, a finding that cash medical support should not be ordered, and rebuttals. The DOJ's own calculator handles these.
