Arizona Sales Tax Rates by City and County
Arizona's sales tax is a transaction privilege tax (TPT) charged in three layers: the 5.6% state rate, a county excise tax and, inside a city or town, the city's own tax. This page lists the retail rate for all 15 counties and 92 cities and towns from the Arizona Department of Revenue's rate tables effective October 1, 2026, with the combined rate a shopper pays in each place.
Arizona sales tax rates by city, 2026
Retail rates, alphabetical. 7 cities cross a county line (Apache Junction, Marana, Peoria, Queen Creek, Sedona, Wickenburg, Winkelman) and get one row per county. The grocery column is the city's tax on food for home consumption; the state's tax does not apply to groceries sold by a grocery business (A.R.S. §42-5102).

How Arizona's rates stack
The state's 5.6% applies everywhere. Counties add up to 1.3% (Mohave adds none), and cities add their own rate on top. The Arizona Department of Revenue collects the city taxes along with the state and county ones, and a business reports each sale under the region code of the place it happens.
Some cities tax the part of a single item's price above a set amount at a lower rate, and some tax rentals, restaurants or utilities at rates other than retail; ADOR's printed tables list each city's other business classes. Sales on tribal reservations are reported under separate reservation region codes, and the rates here do not cover them.
Changed in the October 1, 2026 edition: San Tan Valley (2.25% city rate, Pinal County), Tusayan (4% city rate, Coconino County).
ADOR publishes a new edition of the rate tables for the first of each month (current PDF), and this page is refreshed from it. For one amount, the sales tax calculator works out the tax at any rate.
Frequently asked questions
What is the sales tax rate in Phoenix in 2026?
9.1%: the 5.6% state rate, Maricopa County's 0.7% excise tax and Phoenix's 2.8% city tax on retail sales (the city rate in effect since July 1, 2025). Phoenix does not tax food for home consumption.
Which Arizona city has the highest sales tax?
South Tucson (Pima County), at 11.1% combined. The lowest combined rate in a city is 7.6%, in Lake Havasu City and Bullhead City.
What is the sales tax outside city limits in Arizona?
Only the state and county rate applies outside a city or town: 5.6% to 6.9% depending on the county. Mohave County levies no county excise tax, so unincorporated areas there pay the 5.6% state rate alone.
Are groceries taxed in Arizona?
Not by the state: Arizona's transaction privilege tax does not apply to food sold by a grocery business (A.R.S. §42-5102). Cities set their own rule, and 70 of the 92 cities in ADOR's table tax food for home consumption, 59 of them at their full city rate.
Who collects Arizona city sales tax?
The Arizona Department of Revenue collects the city taxes for the cities. Businesses report state, county and city tax on the TPT return, entering the region code of each location.
