Business Days Calculator

Count the business days between two dates, or add or subtract business days from a date. Weekends and US federal holidays are skipped, and every holiday it skips is listed.

Business days

Dates from Jan 1, 2026 to Dec 31, 2027 only: those are the years with an official OPM holiday schedule on this site.

There are 41 business days from Nov 2, 2026 to Dec 31, 2026, counting both dates, skipping weekends and federal holidays.

Frequently asked questions

How do I count business days between two dates?

Count every Monday through Friday from the start date to the end date and leave out Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays. This calculator does that for you and lists each federal holiday it skipped. The end date is always counted; a toggle decides whether the start date is.

Does the calculator include the start date?

You choose. Inclusive counts the start date if it is a business day; exclusive starts counting the next day. Two identical dates give 1 inclusive on a business day and 0 exclusive. When you add or subtract business days, the starting date is day 0 and is never counted.

Which holidays are excluded?

The eleven federal holidays in 5 U.S.C. 6103(a), on the dates OPM observes them. When a holiday falls on a Saturday it is observed the Friday before, and on a Sunday the Monday after, so the skipped day is the observed weekday. A "weekends only" option ignores holidays entirely.

Why can't I pick a date in 2025 or 2028?

Holiday dates here come only from OPM's published schedules, which this site carries for Jan 1, 2026 to Dec 31, 2027. Holidays are never computed for other years, so the date pickers stop at those limits.

How do I add business days to a date?

Choose Add, enter the start date and the number of business days. The calculator moves forward one weekday at a time, skipping weekends and federal holidays, and shows the date it lands on and the holidays it passed. Choose Subtract to count backwards.

Is a business day the same as a banking day or a working day?

Not always. Working days depend on your employer's schedule, and banking days follow the Federal Reserve calendar, which differs from OPM's when a holiday falls on a Saturday. This calculator follows the federal employee holiday schedule. See the bank holidays page for the Federal Reserve dates.

Does a tax deadline on a holiday move?

Yes. Under IRC section 7503, a deadline that falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday moves to the next day that is none of those. That rule uses the District of Columbia's legal holidays, so it can differ from this calculator by a day or two a year.
