Bank Holidays 2026
The eleven holidays on the Federal Reserve's 2026 schedule, the day each falls on, and when the Reserve Banks' ACH service stops and restarts. This is the Federal Reserve's own list (schedule K.8), not a rule for any other bank's branches.

When a bank holiday falls on a weekend
K.8 states the rule: for holidays falling on Saturday, Federal Reserve Banks and Branches will be open the preceding Friday; however, the Board of Governors will be closed. For holidays falling on Sunday, all Federal Reserve offices will be closed the following Monday. In 2026 only Independence Day falls on a weekend, on a Saturday, so the Reserve Banks are open on Friday, July 3.
Federal employees are off that Friday under OPM's schedule, so the Fed's bank holidays and the federal holidays for 2026 differ on that day. See also the 2027 federal holidays.
What the schedule covers
The schedule lists the days the Federal Reserve System observes. It is not a schedule for your bank's branches or online services, so check your bank for its own holiday hours. Tax payment dates that land on a holiday follow a separate rule; see tax deadlines and the Social Security payment schedule for 2026.
Frequently asked questions
What are the bank holidays in 2026?
The Federal Reserve System observes eleven holidays in 2026: New Year's Day on Thursday, January 1, Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 19, Washington's Birthday on Monday, February 16, Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, Juneteenth National Independence Day on Friday, June 19, Independence Day on Saturday, July 4, Labor Day on Monday, September 7, Columbus Day on Monday, October 12, Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11, Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, November 26, and Christmas Day on Friday, December 25. The Federal Reserve publishes the list as its schedule K.8.
Are banks open on Veterans Day 2026?
Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11, and K.8 lists it as a Federal Reserve holiday. The Reserve Banks' FedACH service ends processing Nov. 10, 2026, 11:30 p.m. ET and resumes Nov. 11, 2026, 5:30 p.m. ET. K.8 is the Federal Reserve's schedule, not any other bank's; check your own bank for branch hours.
Are banks open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day or Columbus Day 2026?
Both are on the Federal Reserve schedule: Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19 and Columbus Day on Monday, October 12. FedACH processing ends Jan. 17, 2026, 3 a.m. ET and resumes Jan. 19, 2026, 5:30 p.m. ET for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and ends Oct. 10, 2026, 3 a.m. ET and resumes Oct. 12, 2026, 5:30 p.m. ET for Columbus Day.
Are banks open on July 3, 2026?
Saturday, July 4 falls on a Saturday. K.8 says that for holidays falling on Saturday, Federal Reserve Banks and Branches will be open the preceding Friday, but the Board of Governors will be closed. So the Reserve Banks are open on Friday, July 3, even though federal employees are off that day under OPM's schedule. FedACH processing ends July 3, 2026, 11:30 p.m. ET and resumes July 5, 2026, 5:30 p.m. ET.
How is a bank holiday different from a federal holiday?
The federal holiday dates come from 5 U.S.C. 6103 and OPM's observed-day rule, while the bank holiday schedule is the Federal Reserve's own K.8 list. They name the same eleven holidays, but they treat a Saturday holiday differently: in 2026, OPM observes Independence Day for federal employees on Friday, July 3, while the Reserve Banks are open that day.
Does a bank holiday delay ACH payments and direct deposits?
The Reserve Banks' FedACH service publishes when processing ends and resumes around each holiday, in Eastern Time. For Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, processing ends May 23, 2026, 3 a.m. ET and resumes May 25, 2026, 5:30 p.m. ET. The schedule's note on the resume time reads: Third file delivery begins at 8:15 p.m. ET. Check with your bank for when a payment will post.
