Mississippi Sales Tax Rate

Mississippi charges a state sales tax with reduced rates for the purchases households make most: groceries, cars and light trucks each carry a lower rate than other retail sales, and residential electricity, fuels and water are taxed at nothing. The Department of Revenue lists only state rates in its sales tax rate table.

The Mississippi Department of Revenue's sales tax rate table lists state rates only. The one local layer on its pages is a city utility tax of 2% that a qualifying municipality adds to telephone and communication utility service inside its limits; it is added to the price of the service and collected from the consumer.

Use tax on out-of-state purchases

Get the exact rate for an address

A statewide figure is a starting point, not a receipt. For the rate that actually applies to a specific address, use the state's own lookup — third-party rate tables disagree with each other and go stale between rate changes.
