W9 Form 2026 Decision Guide
Answer four questions to identify the likely tax form and the next field or TIN action. The tool does not collect or store your name, address, or taxpayer ID.
How to complete Form W-9 safely
Use the name and taxpayer identification number that match IRS or Social Security Administration records. A sole proprietor generally enters the owner’s name on line 1 and may add the business or disregarded-entity name on line 2.
Return the signed form through the requester’s secure channel. Because Form W-9 contains sensitive identity information, avoid ordinary email unless the requester provides an encrypted process.
