Pennsylvania Local Income Tax Calculator

This estimator intentionally requires the official address-specific EIT rate. It does not include Local Services Tax or determine which resident or nonresident worksite rate controls.

Estimated Selected Pennsylvania locality local income tax is $1,000.

Estimated local tax

$1,000

Effective modeled rate

1%

Uses the applicable EIT rate from Pennsylvania DCED’s address lookup. The estimate excludes Local Services Tax and does not resolve resident-versus-worksite rate, PSD code, low-income exemptions, credits or collector-specific rules.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my Pennsylvania EIT rate?

Use the DCED address lookup for PSD codes and EIT rates. Entering your home address and your work address returns a six-digit PSD code plus the resident rate for where you live and the nonresident rate for where you work. Enter the applicable rate into this calculator.

Why does the calculator not have the rate built in?

Pennsylvania has thousands of municipality and school-district combinations, and the rate turns on a specific street address rather than a municipality name or ZIP code. Hard-coding a rate would silently answer the wrong question for many users, so the estimator deliberately requires the official address-specific figure.

Which rate applies — where I live or where I work?

Under Act 32 the employer generally withholds the higher of your resident rate at your home address and the nonresident rate at your worksite, and remits it to the collector for your home district. This calculator applies whichever rate you enter and does not resolve which one controls.

Is Philadelphia included in this calculator?

No. Philadelphia sits outside the Act 32 EIT system and runs its own Wage Tax with separate resident and nonresident rates, so the DCED lookup does not return an EIT rate for it. Use the Philadelphia Wage Tax calculator on this site instead.

What is the Local Services Tax and is it included?

The Local Services Tax is a flat annual dollar amount — not a percentage — charged by some municipalities and school districts on people who work there, usually deducted in installments through payroll. It is a separate levy from the EIT and is not included in this estimate.

Is the EIT the same as Pennsylvania state income tax?

No. Pennsylvania personal income tax is a separate state tax filed with the Department of Revenue. The EIT is a local tax on earned income, filed with your local tax collector on an annual local return, and the two amounts add together.
