Ohio Property Tax Calculator
Ohio property tax bills draw on a long list of local levies — county, municipal, school, and often library or park districts — each adopted locally rather than by the state. County offices maintain the values those levies are applied to, refreshing them on periodic cycles. Exemptions help qualifying owners, and disputed values can be taken to review. County medians power the estimates on this page — select an Ohio county above.

Methodology
Rates are aggregate-derived from the Census Bureau's ACS 2024 5-year American Community Survey (total real-estate taxes paid ÷ total home value, by county). This is a statistical estimate, not a bill lookup — actual property tax bills vary by city, school district, and special-district levies layered on top of the county rate, and by any homestead, senior, veteran, or other exemptions you qualify for. Ohio ranks #8 of 51 (including DC) by statewide average effective rate, where #1 is the highest.

Frequently asked questions
How is property tax calculated in Ohio?
County offices keep an assessed value for your property, refreshed on a periodic cycle, and each levy adopted where you live — county, municipal, school, and others — applies to it. The combined result arrives as your annual bill.
How much property tax will I pay in Ohio?
The levy mix where you live is decisive, and it varies enormously across Ohio. For a county-median estimate, pick your Ohio county above, supply the value, and annual plus monthly figures follow.
Can I lower my Ohio property tax bill?
A homestead-type exemption reduces taxable value for qualifying seniors and disabled homeowners with limited income, and the county review process handles challenges to values that seem too high. Both operate on fixed annual schedules.
Are property taxes deductible?
As a SALT item for federal itemizers, yes — the deduction overall is capped by law. Look up the current limit in IRS guidance.
