Idaho Property Tax Calculator

An Idaho property tax bill is the product of two locally determined numbers: the assessed value your county assessor assigns and the combined levy of the taxing districts — county, city, school, and others — that overlap your home. Owner-occupants can shrink the taxable base through a homestead-type exemption, and disputed values can be appealed. Run a quick estimate above using your Idaho county's median rate.

How property tax works in Idaho

  • The county assessor assigns the assessed value; overlapping local districts supply the combined levy.
  • A homestead-type exemption removes part of an owner-occupied home’s value from the tax base.
  • Values can be appealed at the county level when they look wrong.

Methodology

Rates are aggregate-derived from the Census Bureau's ACS 2024 5-year American Community Survey (total real-estate taxes paid ÷ total home value, by county). This is a statistical estimate, not a bill lookup — actual property tax bills vary by city, school district, and special-district levies layered on top of the county rate, and by any homestead, senior, veteran, or other exemptions you qualify for. Idaho ranks #46 of 51 (including DC) by statewide average effective rate, where #1 is the highest.

Frequently asked questions

How is property tax calculated in Idaho?

Take the assessed value the county assessor assigns, subtract any exemption you qualify for, and apply the combined levy of the districts overlapping your parcel — county, city, school, and any special districts. That product is the annual bill.

How much property tax will I pay in Idaho?

The county you pick and the value you enter decide the estimate. Use the calculator above: it multiplies your Idaho county's median effective rate by the home value and shows the result per year and per month.

Can I lower my Idaho property tax bill?

A homestead-type exemption on an owner-occupied residence directly shrinks the taxable base, and separate relief programs serve some seniors and disabled homeowners. Disputed valuations can be taken to the county for review.

Are property taxes deductible?

For federal itemizers, yes — property tax belongs to the SALT deduction, capped by federal law at a published limit. Check the IRS figure that applies to your filing year.
