Arizona Property Tax Calculator
Your Arizona property tax bill is really several bills rolled into one: the county, your city or town, the school district, and any special districts covering your address each levy against the value the county assessor assigns. The state itself doesn't set the rate. Exemptions and a formal appeal process give owners some control over the number. This page turns county-level medians into a quick estimate — select an Arizona county above and enter a home value to see it.

How property tax works in Arizona
- The county assessor assigns your property a value; each overlapping district then levies against it.
- Because rates are local, moving one district over — even within the same county — can change the bill.
- The page's figures are median-based estimates; your actual notice reflects the exact districts on your parcel.
Methodology
Rates are aggregate-derived from the Census Bureau's ACS 2024 5-year American Community Survey (total real-estate taxes paid ÷ total home value, by county). This is a statistical estimate, not a bill lookup — actual property tax bills vary by city, school district, and special-district levies layered on top of the county rate, and by any homestead, senior, veteran, or other exemptions you qualify for. Arizona ranks #48 of 51 (including DC) by statewide average effective rate, where #1 is the highest.

Frequently asked questions
How much property tax will I pay in Arizona?
That hangs on which county — and which mix of city, school, and special districts — covers your parcel. Pick your county above, enter the home's value, and the calculator applies the local median rate for an annual and monthly estimate.
How is property tax calculated in Arizona?
Each taxing district covering your address sets its own levy, and all of them are applied to the assessed value the county assessor assigns your property. The bill you receive is the sum of those pieces, not one single statewide rate.
Can I lower my Arizona property tax bill?
Two levers: exemptions and appeals. Seniors, veterans, widows and widowers, and disabled residents may qualify for value reductions, and any owner can contest an assessment they believe overshoots the market through the county's review process.
Are property taxes deductible?
For itemizers, yes — they fall under the federal SALT deduction alongside state and local income or sales taxes, subject to the cap federal law sets. Standard-deduction filers get no separate property tax write-off.
